PRODUCTION NOTES |
 |
| |
The
singer writes a letter to his mother, in which he tells
about his longing to go home and the various things which
are happening to him in Europe. |
|
A
typical Robert Falk arrangement for the opening song : horns
intro, two interlocking guitars (Dizzy on the congolese
and me on the ‘cocottes’) and a few goodies
like marimba and xylo. |
 |
| |
“If
you go to Jadotville and meet Bosco tell him to go home
!” … “A woman without husband is like
a bicycle without lights” |
|
By
contrast this song is arranged in a very intimate way. We
added a mutuashi middle-part. Chris Joris plays the percussions. |
 |
| |
A
song about three old men in Kisa who were drinking too much. |
|
This
is the original sound of the trio with Ary. Dominic and
I had developed a rather unique twin finger-style guitar
sound (acoustic + electric). |
 |
| |
Comments
about the decadence of modern times : young men who only
think about stealing and getting stoned, young girls who
go to, school in the morning and become hookers in the evening. |
|
I
had wanted for a long time to include the 5-string banjo
(which is of African origin despite it’s current redneck
use) in an African song. Here it is played by my long-time
friend Bernie Flathorn. Backing vocals are done by Marlène. |
 |
| |
A
song in praise of Kabwebwe, a prison warden who helped Edouard
Masengo in Kenya. |
|
Another
of my crazy ideas was to include an accordion in a soukous
song. Chris Joris is playing the percussion and I play the
lead guitar. |

Young
girls, take care of the good talkers. They only want to
seduce you and then they start looking for another. |
|
A
solo by Dominic,as Jean Bosco would have played it. |
 |
| |
Africa
is now becoming drenched in the colour of blood. |
|
Based
on Jean Bosco’s Bayeke, Dominic wrote new lyrics about
war and violence in Africa. The song is in slow mutuashi
style with a lead guitar played by Dizzy. |

|
My
Ana Wangu has gone away because I couldn’t bring money
home. |
|
The
happy going melody is a bit at odds with the tragic lyrics
… but that’s the way the song was written, don’t
blame it on me ! |

|
A
critic of the people who spend a lot of money for going
out and who lack everything at home. |
|
Another
variation of the mutuashi rhythm with a RF instrumental
middle-part. |

|
A
disillusioned song about the mirage of Europe as seen by
the Africans. |
|
The
closing song is very reminiscent of the first song with
a lot of (synth) horns. The rhythm is 12/8 this time and
I play the lead guitar. |
